The Black Box Project

The Black Box Project is a suicide prevention research initiative that examines digital device data from individuals who have died by suicide to identify behavioral patterns that may help inform earlier intervention. Modeled after the aviation “black box,” the project looks beyond what people may communicate outwardly to explore signals that can emerge in private digital behavior over time. This session will provide an overview of how the project works, early findings from its first phase of research, and the unique role suicide loss survivors play as partners in advancing prevention.

Intended audience: Anyone, whether a community member or professional, interested in preventing suicide.

Presenter: Kim Burditt Bartlett, MSW
Senior Manager of Family Engagement for the Black Box Project at Stop Soldier Suicide
